Hunt Illinois · The official source
Illinois gives coyote hunters a genuine 24-hour season — round the clock, from 10 November through midnight on 15 March — and then says something almost no other state will put in writing:
Illinois does not restrict the type of sights or scopes used for coyote hunting (including laser sights and night vision scopes).
Lights of any color. Semi-automatic rifles. Bait. Dogs. Four months of legal midnight hunting.
And then, in the same booklet, a flat prohibition on suppressors — which most of Illinois’s neighbours now allow. Illinois is generous about how you see and strict about how you sound.
Coyote classification & license in Illinois
What is the classification of coyotes in Illinois?
A furbearing mammal, listed alongside badger, beaver, bobcat, gray fox, weasels, mink, muskrat, opossum, raccoon, red fox, river otter and striped skunk.1
But the coyote is written out of the furbearer framework almost immediately. The digest gives it a heading of its own — “Coyote Hunting” — and notes that exceptions apply to it that do not apply to the other furbearers.1 Where the rest run on dated trapping and hunting seasons, the coyote runs year-round; where the rest are day animals, the coyote gets four months of 24-hour hunting.
Are coyotes protected in Illinois?
Barely. The season table is one line:
Coyote & Striped Skunk — Open year-round, except closed during firearm deer seasons.2
No bag limit.3 The only closure is the firearm deer season, and even that has a route through it — see deer season.
Is a hunting license required to hunt coyotes in Illinois?
Yes:
Hunters need a hunting license and habitat stamp unless exempt.3
The State Habitat Stamp is $5.00 for residents and non-residents alike.4 Landowners and tenants hunting their own ground, and several other categories, are exempt — check the credentials table before buying.
There is no coyote permit, no furbearer stamp for hunting and no night endorsement. Illinois asks for the ordinary license and nothing more.
The prices above are resident prices. A non-resident pays more, and may need a different license — see what a non-resident needs.
Is hunter education required in Illinois?
Yes, and Illinois gives an alternative to the course that most states do not. Anyone born on or after 1 January 1980 must hold a hunter safety education certificate of competency or show evidence of an Illinois hunting license issued in a prior year, before a license will be sold to them.5
That second route matters for a lapsed hunter coming back to it: a license you held in an earlier year is itself the proof, and there is no course to re-sit. The statutory exemptions run through the Youth Hunting License and the Apprentice Hunting License.5
Can a non-resident hunt coyotes in Illinois?
Yes, on a non-resident hunting license and the $5.00 habitat stamp.4 No coyote-specific restriction applies to non-residents, and the 24-hour winter season is open to them on identical terms.
See also is a hunting license required — the license rules there, and the exemptions and add-ons that go with them, apply to you too.
Season, hours & bag limits in Illinois
What is the season for coyote hunting in Illinois?
Year-round, closed only during the firearm deer seasons.2 For 2026 those closures are:
Coyote/Striped Skunk — Closed 20-22 [November] · Closed 3-6 [December]6
Seven days out of the year. Everything else is open.
The closure is county-scoped, and the digest’s season line does not say so. IDNR’s own season table adds the condition:
Coyote · Year round; Closed 20-22 Nov and 3-6 Dec 2026 in counties open for firearm deer hunting7
So the seven closed days follow the firearm deer season rather than the calendar. In a county that is not open for firearm deer hunting, the closure has nothing to attach to. Check your county before assuming either way — the safe reading is that the closure applies unless you have confirmed your county is closed to firearm deer, and the difference is worth a look at the deer county listing rather than a guess.
What is the bag limit for coyotes in Illinois?
None. “There is no limit on red fox, coyote…”8
What are the legal hunting hours for coyotes in Illinois?
This is the best thing about hunting coyotes in Illinois, and it is worth quoting exactly:
Coyotes can be hunted 24 hours a day from 10 November through midnight on 15 March. During the rest of the year, hunting hours for coyotes are 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset. Closed during firearm deer seasons.3
Two regimes, and the winter one is unusually generous:
| Period | Hours |
|---|---|
| 10 Nov – midnight 15 Mar | 24 hours a day |
| 16 Mar – 9 Nov | ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset |
| Firearm deer seasons | Closed, except to deer permit holders |
The 24-hour window covers the entire best part of the coyote year — the late rut through the breeding season and into March, when fur is prime and vocal response is at its peak. Very few states hand a caller four unbroken months of legal night hunting with no permit, no land restriction and no weapon restriction.
Can you hunt coyotes during deer or big game season in Illinois?
The season closes — with one route through it:
During firearm deer seasons, coyotes may be harvested only by hunters with valid, unfilled deer permits using the same types of firearms that are allowed for deer.3
And there is a blaze requirement attached:
Deer hunters with an unfilled firearm deer permit may hunt coyotes during the first and second firearm deer seasons, but must wear a cap and 400 square inches of solid blaze orange or solid blaze pink outer clothing when hunting.3
Note “solid” — Illinois does not accept camouflage-orange patterns for this requirement, and 400 square inches is roughly a full vest.
Outside those seven days, no firearm restriction applies to coyote hunting at all.
Night hunting in Illinois
Can you hunt coyotes at night in Illinois?
Yes — 24 hours a day from 10 November through midnight on 15 March.3 No permit, no land-type restriction, no separate registration.
Outside that window, hunting hours are the ordinary half hour either side of the sun. There is no summer night season in Illinois.
Can you use artificial lights for coyote hunting in Illinois?
Yes, in any color, with one condition that is absolute:
Lights with any color of lens can be used while hunting coyotes as long as the lights are not used from or connected to any vehicle or conveyance (including ATVs, unmanned aircraft, and horses).3
Read the list of conveyances. Illinois names unmanned aircraft and horses alongside ATVs, which closes the two loopholes people reach for.
The general shining prohibition — using any light from or connected to a vehicle in areas where wildlife can be found — is what this exception sits inside. On foot, with a hand-held or gun-mounted light, you are fine.
Can you use night vision in Illinois?
Yes, and Illinois says so directly rather than leaving it to inference:
Illinois does not restrict the type of sights or scopes used for coyote hunting (including laser sights and night vision scopes).3
That sentence is doing a lot of work. Laser sights are prohibited outright for hunting in Iowa and are excluded from Wisconsin’s light definition; Illinois permits them for coyotes. Night vision needs no permit. Two limits apply anyway. Not from a vehicle: Illinois defines a “lighting device” to include “electronic image intensification, active illumination, thermal imaging, or night vision,” and bans its use from a vehicle,9 so glassing a field from the truck with a night vision scope is the offense. And the coyote night hours close during the firearm deer seasons, as set out above.
Can you use thermal in Illinois?
Yes. The digest’s sights-and-scopes sentence is written as a general permission — Illinois “does not restrict the type of sights or scopes used for coyote hunting” — with night vision and laser sights given as examples rather than as the limit of it.3
Thermal is therefore lawful for coyote hunting in Illinois, inside the hours above, and there is no separate rule to comply with. Combined with the 10 November – 15 March 24-hour season, that makes Illinois one of the most straightforward thermal states in the Midwest for a four-month stretch.
Not from a vehicle, though, not even to scan. Illinois makes it unlawful to use “any other lighting device or mechanism from inside or on a vehicle or conveyance in any area where wildlife may be found,” and defines that term to include “thermal imaging, or night vision.”9 Glassing a field with a thermal from the truck window is the offense itself, before any shot. Get out and walk to the stand.
Are there specific weapons restrictions for hunting coyotes at night in Illinois?
No. Illinois sets no night-specific weapon rule for coyotes. Whatever is legal by day is legal at midnight, which given the list below is nearly everything.
Firearms, ammunition & suppressors in Illinois
What firearms are allowed or restricted for coyote hunting in Illinois?
Unusually broad, and the digest spells it out:
Coyotes may be hunted on private property using dogs, archery devices, any type and caliber of handgun, any type of legal rifle including semi-automatic rifles, and shotguns using any type of shell. … When hunting with a shotgun, make sure that the magazine has been fitted with a plug which makes the shotgun incapable of firing more than three consecutive shots.3
Any caliber handgun, any legal rifle including semi-autos, shotguns with any shell including slugs. The only weapon condition is the three-shot shotgun plug.
Transport is where Illinois is strict, and it catches people moving between stands:
Coyote hunters are required to keep their guns unloaded and in a case while in a vehicle or on a conveyance (including but not limited to ATVs and horseback) unless exempt by special IDNR permit. Guns must remain unloaded until the hunter is clear of the road and right-of-way alongside the road.3
Unloaded and cased, every time you get in the truck — and it stays unloaded until you are clear of the right-of-way, not merely off the pavement.
Are suppressors allowed for coyote hunting in Illinois?
No, and not only for hunting: owning one is a crime in Illinois. The digest states the hunting rule twice:
use a gun equipped with a silencer.10
Use of a suppressor/silencer of any type is not permitted.11
The statute behind it reaches every species: “It is unlawful to use a silencer or other device to muffle or mute the sound of the explosion or report resulting from the firing of any gun.”12 And the criminal code goes further, making it unlawful possession of weapons to possess “any device or attachment of any kind designed, used or intended for use in silencing the report of any firearm.”13 There is no exception for a private owner with federal approval.
Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky and Indiana all permit hunting with a lawfully registered suppressor. Illinois does not, and a federal registration from one of those states does not make a can legal on this side of the line.
Do not carry one across the state line assuming your paperwork travels.
Are there any ammunition restrictions in Illinois?
Essentially none for coyotes. Shotguns may use “any type of shell,”3 which for coyote hunters means slugs are permitted — an exception worth noting, because Illinois otherwise restricts taking wild game with shotgun slugs.
During firearm deer seasons, deer permit holders taking coyotes are limited to the firearm types legal for deer.3
Can you hunt coyotes in Illinois using a .22 LR or other rimfire cartridge?
Yes. “Any type of legal rifle” carries no caliber floor for coyotes.3 A rimfire is legal and, in the open ground Illinois offers, undergunned — a centerfire is the better tool.
Is there a magazine capacity limit for hunting coyotes in Illinois?
Not for rifles — semi-automatic rifles are expressly permitted for coyotes with no capacity limit stated.3
The three-shot limit applies to shotguns only, via the plug requirement.3 A standard AR-15 is lawful for coyote hunting in Illinois.
Calls, decoys, bait & dogs in Illinois
Are electronic calls allowed for coyote hunting in Illinois?
Yes, and the digest says so plainly:
Electronic calling devices are legal for coyote hunting.3
They may be used at night inside the 24-hour season on the same terms.
Are decoys allowed for coyote hunting in Illinois?
Yes, including motion decoys. Illinois’s decoy restrictions attach to waterfowl and to deer.
Is baiting allowed for coyote hunting in Illinois?
Yes, with one specific condition:
It is legal to bait coyotes for hunting as long as any wild game used was legally harvested.3
That is a narrower condition than it looks. Using a road-killed deer or an illegally taken animal as bait is the offence; using legally harvested game is not. Note that salvaging a vehicle-killed animal is itself regulated — it “may only be salvaged if the season” is open for it.1
Trapping bait rules are stricter and separate: no foothold trap within 30 feet of exposed bait unless completely covered and concealed, with bait defined as “any bait composed of mammal, bird or fish flesh, fur, hide, entrails or feathers.” Foothold traps set on land may not be placed around exposed bait such as animal carcasses.14
The usual contamination warning applies for deer.
Can you use dogs to hunt coyotes in Illinois?
Yes, and Illinois adds a running season on top:
Furbearers may be pursued or chased with dogs, but not killed, during the running season. The running season for coyote, red fox, opossum, raccoon and striped skunk is open year-round. Exception: You cannot legally pursue any furbearer with a dog or dogs between the hours of sunset and sunrise during the 10-day period preceding the opening date of the raccoon hunting season and the 10-day period following the closing date of the raccoon hunting season.15
The trespass rule for dogs is unusually explicit, and it is worth reading before you turn hounds loose:
It is illegal for a coyote hunter to wantonly allow a dog to hunt on another person’s land without first obtaining permission of the landowner or tenant. If a hunting dog crosses onto property in which the coyote hunter has no permission to hunt, the hunter has no legal right to follow the dog.3
No right of retrieval. Illinois names coyote hunters specifically in that sentence, which tells you how often it comes up.
Private property, vehicles & public land access in Illinois
Is it legal to shoot coyotes on private property (e.g. in your backyard) in Illinois?
On rural private land with permission, yes — and the digest’s broadest permissions (“dogs, archery devices, any type and caliber of handgun, any type of legal rifle…”) are written specifically about private property.3
In town, municipal discharge ordinances govern.
Can you hunt coyotes from a motorized vehicle in Illinois?
No, and Illinois closes the door from two directions. Lights may not be used from or connected to any vehicle or conveyance — ATVs, unmanned aircraft and horses named explicitly — and guns must be unloaded and cased in a vehicle or on a conveyance until you are clear of the road and the right-of-way.3
Can you hunt coyotes from a treestand in Illinois?
Yes — and this is a rule almost nobody knows about, because it is written as a furbearer prohibition with a coyote-shaped hole in it.
The general rule bans the equipment outright:
You cannot legally use or possess any tree climbing or tree cutting device (i.e., saw or axe) when hunting furbearing mammals. Certain exceptions apply to coyote hunting.16
Coyote is a furbearing mammal in Illinois, so without that last sentence a climbing stick or a saw in your pack would be unlawful on a coyote hunt. The exception is in the Coyote Hunting section:
It is legal to hunt coyotes while using or possessing a tree climbing device. However, coyotes may not be hunted utilizing these devices during open season for deer except by properly licensed deer hunters.17
So: year-round you may climb. During the open deer season you may still carry the device, but hunting coyotes from it requires you to be a properly licensed deer hunter. That is a second, separate deer-season condition on top of the firearm-season closure — and it runs through the whole of the deer season, not just the seven firearm days.
If you hunt coyotes over a carcass or a bait pile from a stand in Illinois — a common winter setup — this is the rule that decides whether your autumn is legal.
Can you hunt coyotes on public land in Illinois?
Yes, but check the site first, and the digest tells you to:
Before coyote hunting at a public hunting site, please check [the site’s regulations]3
Illinois public hunting sites carry individual regulations, and many restrict hours, access and permitted species in ways the statewide coyote rules do not. The site tables at the back of the digest list which areas are open to coyote hunting.18
Do not assume the 24-hour winter season travels onto a state site.
Is it legal to trap or snare coyotes in Illinois?
Yes, under the furbearer trapping rules and with the appropriate license. Trapping runs on dated seasons rather than the coyote’s year-round hunting season, and the trap specification rules are detailed — including the 30-foot exposed-bait setback for foothold traps and a 7½-inch jaw spread limit for water sets.19
Two location rules matter: you cannot trap within 100 yards of an inhabited dwelling without permission from the owner or tenant, and you cannot trap on another person’s property — including waters flowing over or standing on their land — without permission.14
Is it legal to poison coyotes in Illinois?
No. Predator toxicants are restricted-use pesticides handled through USDA Wildlife Services and the Illinois Department of Agriculture, not by private individuals. Livestock predation goes through that route.
Are there protected areas or additional local restrictions in Illinois?
Yes, four kinds:
- Public hunting site regulations, which vary by site and which the digest tells you to check before coyote hunting.318
- The firearm deer season closure, statewide except for deer permit holders.2
- The 100-yard dwelling setback for trapping.14
- Municipal ordinances near towns.
Can you use two-way radios while coyote hunting in Illinois?
Yes. IDNR’s digest does not restrict two-way radios. Its only radio language is about tracking, in the deer section: “Electronic tracking systems utilizing radio-telemetry are illegal.”20 That is a rule about finding a wounded deer, not about hunters talking to each other.
After the shot: pelts, bounties & contests in Illinois
Are there regulations for possessing or transporting dead coyotes or pelts out of Illinois?
Green hides are the thing to understand, and Illinois defines the term:
Green Hide: Any hide or pelt which has not been tanned.21
Green hides may be possessed year-round with a valid hunting or trapping license.21
That is a change worth noting for anyone working from older guidance — possession is year-round with a license rather than confined to a window after the season.
Illinois’s CITES tagging requirements attach to bobcat and river otter, not to coyote: an official CITES tag must be permanently affixed to the green hide of those species before export from the United States.22 Nothing comparable applies to a coyote.
Can you sell coyote pelts in Illinois, and do you need a fur handler’s license?
Yes, with the appropriate credential. Wild mammals and their green hides are protected under the Wildlife Code and may only be taken and dealt with as the Code allows,23 and Illinois licenses fur buyers and tanners separately — a person “who dresses and fabricates green hides into fur garments” operates under its own license.22
Selling your own lawfully taken coyote hides to a licensed buyer is the ordinary route. Illinois requires trappers to report the number of furbearing mammals trapped and sold.1
Illinois coyotes carry decent midwestern winter fur, better in the northern counties than in the south.
Is there a coyote bounty program in Illinois?
No state bounty. IDNR does not pay per animal.
Illinois’s answer to the coyote is the year-round season, the absent bag limit and four months of 24-hour hunting. County programs surface occasionally as local decisions; verify with the county, because the state publishes no list.
Are coyote contests legal in Illinois, or can I hunt in Illinois for an out-of-state contest?
Yes to both. Illinois has not restricted predator hunting contests.
Two scheduling notes. The 10 November – 15 March 24-hour season makes Illinois unusually good tournament country — a full-night round is legal with no permit and no land restriction. But the firearm deer seasons close the coyote season entirely for those seven days, so a round on 20–22 November or 3–6 December is only open to participants carrying valid unfilled firearm deer permits, using deer-legal firearms and wearing 400 square inches of solid blaze.3
Competitive hound events are separately provided for: licensed hunts under U.K.C., N.K.C., P.K.C. or A.K.C./A.C.H.A. may be held during the 10-day closed running periods under an IDNR Field Trial Permit.15
Coyotes in Illinois
Are there coyotes in Illinois? How many, and where?
Yes, in all 102 counties. Illinois is roughly three-quarters farmland and the coyote has adapted to it completely — row crop country, CRP, creek timber, river bottoms and the suburbs.
The Chicago metropolitan area supports one of the most intensively studied urban coyote populations in the world, and the animals there are genuinely abundant. For hunting, the central and western farm counties and the southern Shawnee country give the most workable ground.
IDNR publishes no statewide population estimate. The digest’s own upland game FAQ takes the question seriously enough to address it — “Is it true that hawks and coyotes are killing all the upland game?”24
Are Illinois coyotes dangerous to people or pets?
To people, very rarely. To livestock, poultry and pets they are the state’s principal mammalian predator concern, and unattended small pets on the suburban fringe — especially in the Chicago collar counties — are at genuine risk.
How do I tell a coyote from a wolf in Illinois?
IDNR gives this its own box in the digest, headed “Don’t Shoot a Wolf”:
Coyotes are very common in Illinois and often get mistaken for gray wolves. Gray wolves rarely visit Illinois and are currently listed as federally and state endangered. They may not be killed or harassed unless they pose an immediate threat to ones life. Help us teach others the physical differences between a coyote and wolf.25
Illinois has no breeding wolf population, but dispersers arrive from Wisconsin and Michigan, and the state’s own guidance is that the mistake happens.
The size gap is the identification: an Illinois coyote runs roughly 25 to 40 pounds against a Great Lakes gray wolf at 70 to 110. Beyond weight, look at proportion — a wolf has a broad blocky muzzle, short rounded ears relative to its head, long legs and big feet.
Two practical points. Thermal strips exactly the cues that separate them, and Illinois is a state where you may legally be looking through thermal at midnight for four months of the year. And a state-endangered listing means the consequences here are more serious than a wildlife citation. If you cannot rule out a wolf, do not shoot.
When is coyote mating season in Illinois, and when do pups arrive?
Breeding runs January into February, with pups born in April in litters of five to seven. Juveniles disperse from October.
Illinois has built its calendar around this better than almost any state. The 24-hour season opens 10 November, as dispersal peaks and fur begins to prime, and runs through midnight on 15 March — covering the entire breeding season, when territorial pairs answer howls most aggressively and pelts are at their best.
When are coyotes most active in Illinois?
First and last light year-round, with heavy night movement in open farm country. Snow concentrates them on picked corn, waterways and timber edges, and a hard January in Illinois is as good as midwestern coyote hunting gets.
For the full breakdown of season, weather and moon phase, see when to hunt coyotes.
Are there black coyotes in Illinois?
Yes, occasionally. Melanistic coyotes are reported across the Midwest, though they are far more common in the Southeast, where the trait traces to historical hybridization with domestic dogs.
A large dark canid in Illinois deserves a second look for the reason given above — black is a recognized gray wolf color phase in the Great Lakes population, and IDNR’s own guidance is that coyotes and wolves get confused here. See telling them apart.
These answers get re-checked before they go stale. The verification date at the top of the page is the record of when that last happened, not decoration.
Anything else worth noting about coyote hunting in Illinois
Illinois is a much better coyote state than its reputation suggests. Four months of 24-hour hunting, no restriction on sights or scopes, semi-automatic rifles, any-color lights, e-calls, bait and dogs — and a license and a $5 stamp is the whole cost of entry.
Five things to get right:
10 November to 15 March is the season that matters. Round the clock, no permit, no land restriction. Plan the year around it.
Seven days are closed. 20–22 November and 3–6 December in 2026. Unless you are carrying an unfilled firearm deer permit, in which case bring 400 square inches of solid blaze.
No suppressors. Not a hunting-rule technicality — a flat prohibition, in a region where most neighbouring states allow them.
Unloaded and cased in the vehicle, every time. And it stays that way until you are clear of the road and the right-of-way.
Your dog does not carry a right of entry. If a hound crosses onto ground you do not have permission for, you have no legal right to follow it. Illinois names coyote hunters in that rule for a reason.
Is it legal to own a coyote as a pet in Illinois?
No. Illinois regulates the possession of live furbearing mammals under the Wildlife Code, and the digest is direct about it: furbearers “cannot be taken from the wild and kept.”1 Permits exist for rehabilitation, education and exhibition rather than for pets, and local ordinances add their own prohibitions.
If you have found an orphaned pup, contact IDNR at 217-782-6302 or a licensed wildlife rehabilitator rather than keeping it.

Since we cannot hunt wolves, bears, or cougars in Illinois, then, they’re not allowed to hunt people, right? Who trains these predators, and, who is ultimately responsible for that Illinois law when someone is, eventually, killed by one of these supposedly timid critters? I can’t let my grand-kids play without DIRECT supervision in the yard–I’ve seen 2 cougars too close to the house–wonder what they’re looking for…
Brandon ·
Are there bears here???
Scott ·
YES…. they sometimes can be seen on Sundays. Unfortunately they are more harmless then Pandas.
Jeff ·
That was funny, I don’t care where you’re from!
Frank ·
If you have photographic evidence I believe you can get a nuisance tag
Rodger ·
I see one of the questions above asked about ammunition, etc., and the answer got improperly truncated, and, no direct answer about ammunition. Are FMJ 223 bullets legal to take coyote in Illinois, or only HP and other expanding bullets?
Terry ·
HP’s are the way to go. FMJ’s will just pass through with minimal damage..
Troy G. ·
Is it legal to kill a coyote if it is killing your livestock (chickens, goats….) or do you need to get a permit?
Tim D. ·
yes it is legal with 223
Tomas ·
So has anyone (mainly Tony) been able to ninja kick a coyote and if so, how was the jerky?
Hoss ·
Ninja throwing stars work best. Nonchucks make them angry lol!!!!
Ping P. ·
Are pit with punji stakes covered with leaves and twigs an acceptable method for taking coyotes in Illinois?
Coyote ·
Coyote hunting season has been canceled. You are encouraged to feed Coyotes 24 hours, 365 days a year.
Jeff ·
Can u hunt coyote with a big bore air rifle in illinois
Chip ·
Coyote hunting 101 is filled with stupidity for the most part. For serious hunters, go to the DNR site. This one is for people on drugs asking about parachutes, ninja kicks, good God…obviously dumb non-hunters. We take coyote hunting seriously.
Whogoesby C. ·
Chip, we’re glad that you take coyote hunting “very seriously” because no one else does. Also, with a name like Chip, I suspect no one takes YOU seriously. I hope you’re wearing your 400 square inches of orange flair out there, Chip.
SlikNik ·
I know but there are some gloriously hilarious comments here.
Jeff ·
I hear coyotes are a huge problem down at the southern border. Humans follow them north by the 1000’s. No one seems to be hunting them. They are not endangered and freely roam where they want.
Ahhhhhnold ·
Bruh, do any of you even LIFT?!
Seamus L. ·
could i hunt a coyote with a air rifle
Justin ·
Can I hunt coyote on public dnr land with a rifle?
McCheez ·
I ninja kicked said coyote, made jerky, then ninja kicked jerky. Jerky turned into it’s kicked form, kerky. Kerky was inedible.

Can I hunt coyote with my Crosman F4 air rifle
Larry L. ·
I would like to hook up with some one to go coyote hunting in Illinois.
Jonathan ·
Howdy! Local hunter at field and stream told me I’d Im hunting on family property I don’t need any license period, I can get a habitat stamp to dot my i’s and cross my t, but there isn’t any law saying I can’t shoot a coyote on private property. I tried to backcheck on DNR websites but can not confirm. Anyone know anything? I shot a rabid one a few weeks ago and wondered if I’d done goofed.
Jonathan ·
If Im*
Mystic R. ·
Private property or not, law states you need a hunting license and habitat stamp unless exempt. Illinois DNR site will tell you what criteria is to be “exempt”. Would I shoot one if it was rabid or going after my dog even if I didn’t have a license? Probably, but that doesn’t make it legal.
Bort ·
This shit is magnificent…I was on the wrong internets before I found the comments section of this internets…fellas after my own mind, I see. (Ahem) Can I hunt coyotes with nothing but BRAWN, INDOMITABLE WILL, IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME, PCP, A PICTURE OF YOUR MOM, and A HARD FIST FULL OF RAINBOWS?
Greg ·
Can I killa coyote in McHenry County if they go after my dog
Susan ·
Coyotes help control the feral cat community.
Jason ·
Kill the coyotes, save the kitties. The feral cat population kills the mice and the rats….and rarely attack your dog. Coyote jerky is tasty to.
Jason ·
Chip it’s not my fault you suck at kicking and are inflexible. Don’t take your inflexible chicken legs that are incapable of generating power out on me. I assure you that like Al Gore when he hunts the allusive and dreaded Mandbearpug….I am super serial. I also assure you that I have never imbibed in Illegal drugs. Ever. Furthermore I rarely drink and I was not drunk when I posted that. Oh and you should look up powered parachutes, they are awesome.
Jason S. ·
One night my cat was working hard on the rodents and was caught by coyotes. O god where was the ninja coyote kicking ,jerky making hunter flying down in his powered parachute to save my cat. Instead I had a guy by the name of chip waiting on the right time and permits to keep the town safe
Scott ·
Can I “hunt” the coyote barking at night in my urban subdivision right now!
Jason ·
During non deer season is there a limit on shells you can keep in a shotgun.
Jason ·
And also number of shells you can keep
John ·
Can I hunt yotes in shorts? I like to wear cut offs, but my left nut seems to always find it’s way out. I would never consider hunting yotes from my pick-up truck, but I do wear cut offs while driving said pick-up. Is there a conflict of interest here? Lastly, if it is in fact legal to hunt yotes in shorts, can I do so while while wearing Nancy Pelosi’s gigantic bra as ear muffs during winter months?
Bobbert ·
What about my preferred method of hunting on a gas-powered pogo stick, with a wet mop slathered in bbq sauce? How is this not in the faq section?
John ·
Can you use corn to bait coyotes in Illinois?
Jamie ·
Can I keep a coyote as a pet? I want to train it to bite of left nuts.
Rodger ·
It is legal in Illinois to hunt over bait for coyotes, as long as any game used was legally taken. So, I guess that means, don’t steal the corn.
